PMDMC 2022: Grant Center Panels and Slides
July 27, 2022
It was wonderful to meet with so many of you in person in Chicago last week! So much energy at the PMDMC meeting! After attending and producing sessions for the meeting for more than 10 years, it was so refreshing to be in a group of 42% newcomers. You bring so much new knowledge and fundraising experience to our public media family. If you were not able to attend or we were not able to connect in person, please feel free to reach out and set up a Zoom. I'm always happy to hear an update about your funding needs, successes and challenges, and to answer your questions.
Special thanks to Amy Davis and Kate Burnie, who "Zoom" with me regularly and collaborated with a panel for an amazing discussion. And special thanks to Jamie Carter, who made the trip from Southern California and carried the bulk of a session herself, generating a lot of interest in further conversations about impact and evaluation.
The two sessions that I produced this year are:
Journalism Funding Through Partnerships
In our changing world, journalism is more important than ever. Stations around the country are finding new ways to sustain their journalism work through partnerships and by re-examining their relationship with their audience. We'll begin with an overview from CPB and then dive into a discussion of successful strategies in Atlanta, Kansas City and North Carolina. Join us to hear some success stories and challenges and to share your own experiences.
Speakers
Kathy Merritt, Senior VP - Radio Journalism and CSG Services, Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Sarah Morris, General Manager, KCUR (Kansas City)
Kate Burnie,Grants & Major Gifts Officer, North Carolina Public Radio
Amy Davis, Director of Foundation Relations & Grants, WABE (Atlanta)
Meegan White, Director - The Grant Center for Public Media, America's Public Television Stations (APTS)
Leveraging Data and Evaluation in Institutional Fundraising: The Case for Family Math
The Grant Center for Public Media will outline how they work with stations to identify funding prospects, highlight new grant opportunities and consult on strategy and approach. Then Jamie Carter (Associate Director of Institutional Giving) will provide a look at the case study of fundraising for one local station (KCET / PBS SoCal) and its Family Math Program. She will present examples of how their institutional giving team has leveraged data and evaluation to secure and manage successful grants, as well as share some grant writing tips and tactics. Grant writers will learn how to strengthen their programs, build sustainability and deepen public media impact.
Speakers
Jamie Carter, Associate Director - Institutional Giving, Public Media Group of Southern California (KCET / PBS SoCal)
Meegan White, Director - The Grant Center for Public Media, America's Public Television Stations (APTS)
