Public broadcasters play a critical public safety role during natural disasters, such as hurricanes and floods. In addition to these emergency communication services, local stations also provide other services needed by their communities during these difficult times. This is precisely what WTJX did in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
After Hurricanes Irma and Maria, many families lost their homes and have trouble getting educational resources. In partnership with Sony Electronics Inc., Ematic and PBS, WTJX (Virgin Islands Public Broadcasting System) is providing BRAVIA® 4K smart TVs and playback devices and PBS KIDS Plug & Play HDMI streaming sticks to Head Start centers and preschools, to ensure that no one is left behind from these devastating hurricanes.
