APTS Congratulates CPB Board Nominees on their Senate Confirmation

WASHINGTON — December 21, 2022 — America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) president and CEO Patrick Butler issued the following statement on the recent CPB Board confirmations:

“America’s Public Television Stations congratulate Kathy Im and Diane Kaplan on their confirmation by the Senate, and Ruby Calvert on her reconfirmation by the Senate, to serve on the Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

“Ms. Im’s extensive background in public service journalism and media will serve our system well, and her innovative approach to ensuring that a broad diversity of voices are heard and a rich variety of Americans’ stories are told will benefit our society in important ways.

“Ms. Kaplan’s invaluable contributions in philanthropy as CEO of the Rasmuson Foundation and in local public service as the CEO of the Alaska Public Radio Network have set a great example of creative stewardship in the State of Alaska – just the experience and perspective CPB needs. And her profound understanding of the challenges facing rural America will be immensely helpful as the public media system continues to evolve, building on our strong commitment to education, public safety and civic leadership and finding new and innovative ways to serve all Americans.

“And Ruby Calvert has made invaluable contributions to public media over the last nearly 40 years, as the general manager of Wyoming PBS, as a member of the PBS Board and a lay trustee on the APTS Board. She has been an eloquent and passionate leader, and we have appreciated her service on the CPB Board.

“We commend the Senate for these confirmations and look forward to working with these outstanding people as members of the CPB Board.”
