America’s Public Television Stations Statement on the Death of Don Young

WASHINGTON – March 20, 2022 – Patrick Butler, president and chief executive officer of America’s Public Television Stations (APTS), today issued the following statement on the death of Congressman Don Young:

“America’s Public Television Stations are saddened by the passing of Congressman Don Young -- a lawmaker dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of the State and people of Alaska.

“Congressman Young fought tenaciously to advance issues of importance to Alaska. We are grateful that he recognized the critical role that local public media stations play in serving Alaska communities from the urban to the most remote. We appreciate his strong support for public media funding over many years, which helped ensure the continuation and enhancement of public media stations in Alaska and throughout the nation. I was honored to present Congressman Young with our Champion of Public Broadcasting Award in 2014.

“We are grateful for his legacy of service as we mourn his loss.”
