America’s Public Television Stations Statement on Judy Woodruff of the PBS NewsHour

WASHINGTON - November 11, 2022 - Patrick Butler, president and chief executive officer of America’s Public Television Stations (APTS), made the following statement today on the announcement that Judy Woodruff, anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour, is leaving the anchor chair.

“America’s Public Television Stations join her legion of fans and admirers in thanking Judy Woodruff for her decades of exemplary journalism, her outstanding service to public television and her inspiring standard of personal integrity that has made Judy such a widely trusted figure through so many years of national turmoil and division.

“Her leadership of the PBS NewsHour, first in partnership with Gwen Ifill and for the past several years as sole anchor, has protected and enhanced public television’s reputation for accuracy, responsibility and civility in covering news and public affairs.

“It has been my personal privilege to know Judy for more than 40 years, and there is no one I admire more.

“We all wish Judy the best as she steps away from the anchor chair and takes on yet another challenging assignment. We are indebted to her for the extraordinary contributions she has made, and will continue to make, to the American people’s understanding of their government and their times. And we look forward to seeing the next chapter in her amazing career unfold in the months and years to come.”
