The breakfast on the Hill included a presentation of our first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award to Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), a Champion of Public Broadcasting Award to Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and our station Advocacy Awards to Gail Sande, Member of the Board of Trustees, KNPB Public Broadcasting, Reno, NV, and Dorothy Pacella, Executive Director, Friends of THIRTEEN, Inc., New York, NY. We also heard from one of public television’s most powerful and articulate supporters, Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), as we prepared for Capitol Hill Day.

Patrick Butler, President and CEO of APTS, provided opening remarks. The Librarian of Congress, Dr. James Billington, also spoke.

 

Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), co-chair of the Public Broadcasting Caucus, spoke about the importance of public broadcasting.

 

Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) was presented our first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

Gail Sande, Member of the Board of Trustees, KNPB Public Broadcasting, Reno, NV, was presented the National Advocacy Award.

 

Dorothy Pacella, Executive Director, Friends of THIRTEEN, Inc., New York, NY, was presented the National Advocacy Award.

 

Senator John D. Rockefeller IV (D-WV) was presented a Champion of Public Broadcasting Award.
