America’s Public Television Stations seeks a Legislative and Communications Assistant to provide general administrative support to the government relations and communications staff.
America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) is the membership organization of the 158 licensees operating more than 330 public television stations throughout the United States. APTS, headquartered in Arlington, VA, provides strategic planning, advocacy, regulatory representation, communications, grant management, a national conference and other services for its members as they pursue local public service missions in education, public safety and civic leadership.
The position will report to the Vice President of Government and Public Affairs and will work closely with all members of the government relations and communications staff.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Researching, drafting and communicating legislative, member and other information.
• Maintaining database files and materials on the website.
• Providing support for the grassroots campaign including website and advocacy platform maintenance.
• Tracking and distributing relevant press clippings, and helping disseminate press releases and statements.
• Assisting with member station and other external communications.
• Coordinating logistics for projects and meetings.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong research and organizational skills, experience with data management and attention to detail are integral to the position. Experience with updating websites, electronic mass mailing systems, social media platforms and advocacy platforms is desired. Familiarity with the legislative process and experience working on Capitol Hill is a plus.
The salary range for the position is $50,000 - $60,000 and includes an excellent benefits package. APTS employees are currently working on a hybrid schedule with sometime in the office every week, but the majority of time worked remotely.
