KET EncycloMedia: Learning Without Limits

KET EncycloMedia LogoKET EncycloMedia, a service Kentucky Educational Television (KET) has made available to public schools since 2005, currently has more than 32,000 teacher users. KET EncycloMedia is a comprehensive online multimedia learning service that offers users access to a downloadable unitedstreaming collection of more than 40,000 video clips, including 50 hours of KET-produced video on Kentucky subjects. The unitedstreaming multimedia service has already been used successfully in several Kentucky school districts. “This has been one of the most successful services KET has ever provided. KET EncycloMedia is an engaging way to meet the professional needs of teachers and help all students achieve at higher levels,” stated Kathy Quinn, KET’s director of education services.

KET EncycloMedia also includes a library of still photos and clip art, quizzes and lesson plans. In addition, KET EncycloMedia provides a “this day in history” calendar, and many other related resources. All of the KET EncycloMedia materials are indexed to Kentucky academic standards.

Through a partnership between KET and the Kentucky Department of Education, KET EncycloMedia can be utilized at no cost by both teachers and students. To ensure that Kentucky teachers and students will always have reliable access and the highest possible video quality, the Kentucky Department of Education has purchased “local host” software that allows video and audio clips to be stored and indexed locally, giving school districts the freedom to build electronic libraries of resources from KET EncycloMedia within their own buildings.
