Vice President, Communications Jeff is a senior public broadcasting executive with a strong foundation in business, law and technology. He joined APTS in June 2002 and was named Vice President for Communications in October 2003. He interacts with member stations, the national and local media, and with legislative and federal officials conveying Public Television’s business and policy agendas.
Jeff plays an integral role in managing high-profile crisis communications campaigns that convey clear and consistent messages to policy-makers. In June 2005, working with professionals from APTS and other public broadcasting national organizations, he provided leadership on the public relations campaign that included on-air appeals on over 100 public television stations to restore more than $200 million in funding cuts proposed by House Appropriators.
Jeff embraces the digital transition as a venue for the creation of new programming and services for television viewers. As a vice president at the Association of Public Television Stations, he works with the leadership of public television stations to pursue the opportunities digital broadcasting presents. With a solid foundation in science and technology, Jeff also leads the Association's initiatives to explore business development opportunities utilizing local television stations’ digital spectrum for revenue-generating projects.
Jeff is a veteran of Capitol Hill, authoring several pieces of legislation enacted into law through his tenure with Congressman Edolphus Towns and Congresswoman Constance Morella. In each position, Jeff was responsible for handling media requests, producing a weekly cable television segment, and proactively working with the media to support each Member's legislative agenda.
A member of the California Bar, Jeff practiced intellectual property law with Thelen, Reid & Priest and Weil, Gotshal & Manges in California’s Silicon Valley. He also served as the general counsel and director of business development for a wireless telecommunications entity.
Jeff earned his J.D. degree at the University of Michigan Law School. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A., with honors, in Political Science.
