President and CEO
South Carolina ETV
Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan is serving his first term as a professional trustee on the APTS Board. Bresnahan joined ETV, South Carolina’s statewide public television and radio network, in September 2001.
When Bresnahan joined South Carolina ETV, he secured new sources of funding in response to state budget shortfalls and the imperative to transition to digital broadcasting. Currently, Bresnahan is focused on fully utilizing ETV’s broadcast systems to both enhance educational offerings and increase local programming. Under his leadership, ETV launched the South Carolina Channel, a digital broadcast service devoted solely to local programming. Several other initiatives, “The Big Picture,” a new in-depth public affairs series; “Carolina Stories,” a South Carolina-focused documentary series; and “Southern Lens,” an independent film series, were all created under his direction. In addition, ETV has expanded and enhanced its educational services through Streamline, an instructional video on-demand service; and knowitall.org, ETV’s Internet portal for K-12 students, teachers and parents.
Under Bresnahan’s aegis, ETV has garnered many awards, including four Regional Emmy Awards, a New York Festival Award, the Mister Rogers Trolley Award, five PRSA Mercury Awards, the Governor’s Friend of the Taxpayer Award and the South Carolina Senate’s Blue Granite Award.
Prior to joining South Carolina ETV, Bresnahan held numerous positions in public broadcasting, including president and general manager of WVPT in Shenandoah, Virginia; general manager at WQPT-TV, Moline, Illinois; manager of programming and public affairs at Continental Cablevision of New England; and as a communications specialist with the mayor’s office at Boston City Hall. He currently serves on the boards of ITVS, South Carolina Aquarium, South Carolina Junior Achievement, and University of South Carolina College of Mass Communication and Information Studies.
Bresnahan received his B.S. in journalism and master’s of science in broadcasting and film from Boston University, College of Communications. He has completed executive education courses at the Harvard Business School, University of Virginia Darden School and the University of Iowa. He served as an officer in the Navy and Naval Reserve for 10 years, and taught English in Yokohama, Japan.
